Your Little One’s Language Starts with You

Your Little One’s Language Starts with You

There’s something very simple yet key in your little one’s learning: the more words you use with them, the more words they will learn. It seems logical, right? Well, this is one of the most important pillars of their development.

As moms and dads, we are the role models for our little ones in everything we do, as well as in what we say and how we say it. Every time you talk, sing, or read with your child, you help them discover the world. Keep in mind that language structures our thinking and is the foundation for any future learning.

For example, do you want to know how you can help them prepare for the future process of reading? Here are some simple ideas that can be part of their daily routine:

  • Talk: converse with them whenever you can. Every conversation enriches their vocabulary and structures.
  • Sing: songs are a magical way to internalize language. Make it fun!
  • Read: reading together is one of the best gifts you can give. This will prepare them to develop their reading skills.
  • Write: and I’m not just talking about writing letters… painting, coloring, drawing, doodling…
  • Play: free play is a fantastic way to explore language and relationships. Plus, it helps them incorporate what they’ve learned! And it’s also an excuse to laugh together!

Extra tip: Having dinner as a family, without distractions, can be the perfect time to chat calmly and reinforce their language skills. Plus, it’s ideal for creating good eating habits!
