What enters their ears

What enters their ears

With the start of the school term, I noticed something curious.
My little ones come home singing songs they haven’t heard here.
Nor from the teachers.
They’ve learned them from other children:
in the playground, in the cafeteria, during playtime in the classroom.
Some are clearly childish.
Others… not so much.
And that’s okay. It’s part of growing up in a community.

It made me think. External influences reach them, whether we like it or not.
And often they enter the home without us even noticing.
And here I pause and remember something important:
we can’t always control what comes from outside,
but we can care for what they experience at home:
the environment we create, the songs we play, the words we repeat, the values that shape everyday life.

What enters their ears stays, in some way, in their heart.
That’s why, when it comes to music, it’s important for me to choose songs that:
remind them who they are,
speak to them with respect,
bring calm, joy, curiosity, and connection.

The words and songs that reach their hearts become roots; caring for them today is planting their well-being for tomorrow.

That doesn’t mean controlling or isolating.
Every home is a world of its own.
And it’s important to respect what happens in others’ homes, even if it sometimes impacts ours.
It’s simply about offering a safe, consistent environment they can return to.

And then, of course… having patience when they come home singing some song with impossible mixes of animals. Sound familiar? 😉
