The First Five Years: The Foundation of Their Future

The First Five Years: The Foundation of Their Future

From the moment they are born, children are in a period of rapid development. During the first five years, the brain grows at an impressive rate, reaching approximately 90% of its adult size. Every experience, interaction, and moment of play contributes to the formation of neural connections that lay the foundation for learning, social skills, and emotional well-being.

🧠 The Brain Under Construction
Every second, in the early years of life, more than a million new neural connections are formed. These connections are strengthened through repetition and enriching experiences. This is why playing, exploring, and discovering are much more than entertainment: they are the natural way children learn about the world.

💛 Bond and Emotional Security
At this stage, children are not only learning words or motor skills but are also building their relationship with the world and others. A secure attachment with at least one adult provides them with the necessary confidence to explore and grow with security.

🎭 Autonomy and Discovery
Between 18 and 36 months, they begin asserting their independence. Sometimes, this shows up as “tantrums” or “challenges,” but in reality, it is their way of building their identity and learning to self-regulate. With patience and connection, we can accompany them through this process without getting frustrated.

At Petit Folks, we believe in the power of play as a driver of learning in the early years of life. That’s why our toys are designed for families to share quality moments, reinforcing the important bond during this stage.
