Promoting creativity and imagination through children's songs

Do you know that moment when you’re telling a story, and suddenly your little one starts inventing its own? I love when that happens because it means they’ve understood the story and have been able to let their imagination soar, creating their own version.

The same thing happens with children's songs. When they love a song, they tend to sing it anytime, anywhere. And if they understand its meaning, they’re likely to let their imagination run wild, get creative, and come up with their own version of the song.

Sometimes they’ll sing a song making up the lyrics with sounds and onomatopoeia (which is quite impressive too!), but other times, they might even venture to create their own lyrics.

A few days ago, my 2-year-old did just that with the song “Iupi ia!” in Catalan. In the Petit Folks version, this song talks about transportation and their sounds. And instead of going by bike, car, or plane, he decided he wanted to go by sailboat! (and he’s never even been on one). He even made up a sound for it… though we’re still debating at home what the right sound should be. Any ideas?

If your little one also loves singing and making up songs, join them in singing. And if you’re not sure which songs to sing, get inspired by Petit Folks boxes.
