Learning to read... without opening a single book?

Learning to read... without opening a single book?

When does reading actually begin? The obvious answer would be: when they learn the alphabet. But neuroscience shows otherwise. It begins much, much earlier.

It starts when your little one sings a song in the car, claps along to a beat, notices that "cat" and "hat" sound similar, or anticipates the word right at the end of a sentence.

Before decoding the visual shapes of letters, the brain needs to train the ear. This is called phonology awareness: the ability to recognize and play with the sounds of spoken language.

There's no need for boring worksheets. A young child's brain prepares for reading by doing this:

·       Singing and playing with rhymes.

·       Listening to the patterns and pauses in oral stories.

·       Repeating traditional melodies over and over again.

At Petit Folks, we focus on building this natural foundation. Through music, oral traditions, and hands-on play, we fine-tune their auditory attention without academic stress.

Because sometimes, paving the way for reading looks a lot like simply singing together in the living room.
