How to Clean Wooden Toys So They Last for Generations
Share
As you know, Petit Folks is designed to be a toy passed down from generation to generation—it never goes out of style! But to withstand the test of time and retain its charm, like all wooden toys, it needs proper care.
The other day, my child decided to color the lid with crayons... you can imagine the look on my face. But I decided not to overreact and looked for a solution: with a damp cloth, it was sorted out in no time.
These things happen and will keep happening, so I thought it might be helpful to share some tips with you to keep wooden toys in good condition, safe, and ready for play.
- Clean regularly, but don’t overdo it
- Use a dry or slightly damp cloth.
- Never submerge wooden toys in water. Wood is porous and can absorb too much moisture, swell, or even warp.
- No chemicals allowed!
- Avoid bleach, alcohol, vinegar, or furniture cleaning products. These can damage eco-friendly paints and finishes and compromise the toys’ safety.
- Hygienic benefits of wood
- Surprisingly, wooden toys are often more hygienic than plastic ones, as the porous surface of wood makes it harder for viruses and bacteria to survive. Additionally, wood contains natural acids that act as an antibacterial agent.
- Dry with care
- After cleaning, dry the toys with a towel and leave them out in the air for a while, ideally in the sun, to remove moisture without overly drying the wood.
- A little TLC!
- If the wood feels rough, a light polish with natural oil can restore its shine (ensure the product is safe for young children).
With these simple tips, your wooden toys can endure years of play and adventure.
Now, let’s keep playing!
