Does your child line everything up? Don’t worry… it’s development

Have you ever seen your child lining up toys, placing everything in a row, or repeating the same movements over and over, and wondered: “Why do they do that?”

It’s not random. It’s not a habit. It’s a natural stage of development: children explore and understand the world through movement and action. These patterns are known as action schemas, and every gesture, every row of blocks, every object they move has a cognitive and emotional purpose.

When your child lines things up, sorts, fills and empties containers, or builds towers only to knock them down, they are training attention, concentration, autonomy and logical thinking. At the same time, they are building the foundations for mathematical and spatial skills—all while playing and having fun.

At Petit Folks we see it all the time: lining up the cards, repeating songs or following a rhythm isn’t a whim—it’s active learning. And yes… if they place all the cards in a row… don’t ask why. Just observe and join them. 😉

Petit Folks is designed so children can play in their own way, according to the needs of each moment and stage. If you’d like to learn more about free play, click here.
