I’m one of those who thinks the more music our little ones listen to, the better! 🎶 Musical variety enriches them, opens their minds, accompanies their development, and of course, gives them many moments of fun. But just like we supervise what they watch on TV or on their phones, I believe we should also reflect on the content of the songs they listen to, don’t you think?
For example, there are many songs from oral tradition that, although they are part of our culture, don't always carry the most appropriate message for little ones. The same goes for some of the current hits. It’s not about judging what they listen to or, even less, banning it, but about reflecting on its content. But when they’re very little, they don’t yet have the criteria to differentiate what is or isn’t correct, so the filter we apply as adults becomes even more important.
If at home we avoid using offensive or violent language, it makes sense that the music our children listen to also respects those same values. Because we know that it only takes them hearing a song at the park one afternoon for them to sing it non-stop for days. 😂
Although it’s not always easy to know how to approach this topic, what I’m clear on is that not everything goes. And you, what do you think about this? 🤔 I’d love to hear from you.
P.S.: If you’re not sure what to play for them, get inspired by our boxes with children’s songs – they’ve all passed our filter!
