After Christmas, don’t you find yourself asking, What do I do with all these new toys now? Between family gatherings, gifts, and the festive atmosphere, the house feels full—not just emotionally 😉.
To make the return to routine easier for everyone and help our little ones enjoy a more organized play space, I’d like to share some practical tips for organizing these gifts and maximizing their value.
-
Make space by reviewing what you already have
The first step is to assess the toys you already had at home. Some, due to age or interest, might not get used as much anymore. Work with your little one to decide which toys to keep or donate. This way, you free up space and ensure that everything left is still exciting for them.
-
Evaluate the new toys and set up a rotation
For the new toys, take a moment to observe which ones they enjoy the most and which fit their current stage. Keep some readily available while storing others to rotate later. This not only helps them avoid feeling overwhelmed by too many toys at once, but it also makes each toy feel more special and “new” when it reappears.
💡 For instance, some imitations games, like a toy kitchen, can stay out, while others can rotate depending on the playtime focus.
Why is this important?
An overcrowded play space can create visual noise and affect their ability to concentrate, making meaningful play harder to achieve. Creating a tidy space and rotating toys helps them focus, enjoy more, and boost their imagination.
I hope you find these tips helpful and that you and your little one enjoy plenty of playtime in the new year!
P.S.: I hope Petit Folks is gifting you special moments of shared play and bonding, and helping you ease back into routine. If you’re looking for more ideas, here’s an article from our blog.
